I don't think I appreciated how beautiful this area is when I lived here. Of course, it helps that we had PERFECT weather for our drive up the coast to San Simeon yesterday.



And then you catch a glimpse of the 'Castle on the Hill'.



When I first saw Hearst Castle (25 years ago) I was still a anti-establishment-hippie-chick and I didn't really want to go see this disgusting display of conspicuous consumption. But I did. And I was stunned. William Randolph Hearst and his architect Julia Morgan had GOOD taste! This has to be one of the most beautiful sights in the world. I visited many times while I lived here. Jim came with me another time just 10 years ago, and now again yesterday. It never fails to overwhelm me with it's beauty.









Although the rooms are furnished with pricesless art - they also look very comfortable. You try to imagine what it must have been like to be one of the lucky ones invited to stay for a weekend.



The oldest piece of art on the property is an Egyptian sculpture of Sekhmet, the Lion-Headed Goddess.



But, our favorite is Galatea on a Dolphin. She just makes you feel like kicking back and enjoying the scenery!
